Through my time in Hawai'i I learned that Native Hawaiians (Kanaka Maoli) and protectors (Kia'is) are fighting courageously against the construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) on the sacred Mauna a Wakea. Mauna means mountain and Wakea means Sky Father, from Kanaka Maoli's origin story. The TMT will not only bring destruction of the people but also contamination of the aquafier and extinction of many species, animals and plants alike.
