Make sure you find surf lessons that you will enjoy, here is what to look for:
- Private or group: group is great to get out and ride some waves. Private lessons are better if you truly want to start learning
- They will only take you where it is safe. slow, steady Rolling waves are ideal. You will find these in Waikiki on Oahu, Kalama Beach in Kihei Maui, and the Breakwall in Lahaina, Maui. Big Island has good spots near Kailua-Kona and Poipu Beach on Kauai.
- Check price, group size, and duration to find what is right for you.
- Any time of year is a good time to go. Bigger waves typically come during the winter (depends on what part of the island though). But as a beginner, it doesn’t matter.
- The ocean is 75 to 80 degrees year-round so no we suite is required.
- A surfboard is included with lessons. See if they provide a rash guard and water shoes. Some offer filling
