Battleships, during their heyday, had an unfortunate tendency to randomly blow up in port. This was almost always down to poor powder handling or just unstable powder, in general. A couple exceptions from brave frogmen aside.

The Japanese battleship, Mutsu, is probably the most infamous of them all. Generally assumed to be a suicidal crewman lighting a fatal fire, we don't really know for sure. And never will.

It's a shame that this is all she's remembered for, but not terribly surprising, in that regard.
