The Sand Is Missing!
Have you heard of seasonal beach disappearance? West Hawaii is famous for its disappearing sands as winter storms come in and grab the sand and the sand hangs out off the coast until seasonal currents bring it back in again. However, the consistent high surf days we have been experiencing gave Kua Bay an alarming look today with excessive beach erosion. We interviewed the lifeguard and he said it’s the worst he’s seen since they put up the lifeguard tower four years ago.
He DID want the public to know that when the sand is in and there is a big beach, they see a lot of spinal cord injuries from people being slammed onto the beach from the waves. Now, they are seeing people stuck in rip currents. Be VERY careful when you are out there swimming as the sand is out there creating new and dangerous currents.
The good news is that the sand will come back..perhaps by early spring!
