Bernini Honolulu recently introduced $25 set lunches that feature a salad, one of four entrees such as a pillowy, velvety lasagna or shrimp pasta, and two desserts. Today it was a vanilla bean panna cotta with pineapple, and chocolate ganache.

I was able to try the above with fellow foodies Sean Morris and Melissa Chang, as well as a handful of other lunch entree options available for a supplemental charge such as +$20 for the Washugyu filet mignon with foie gras and truffle, sea urchin ricci de mare (+$13); granchio with snow crab, spinach and tomato cream sauce (+$13); and seasonal truffle risotto (+$20); and assorted appetizers (+$8).

The restaurant recently welcomed back one of its original chefs and we loved the delicacy of the sauces and easy elegance of the dishes. For instance, I don't usually order lasagna at restaurants because it's something I can make at home, but this is a much sexier, elevated version of the comfort dish, and it turned out to be my favorite entree of the afternoon!

I'm usually a carb-phobe because of the sugar content of various pastas and simple carbs, so I'll only eat pastas if it's worth the toll it takes on the body and these proved to be irresistible. We polished off those plates in no time!

If you've never been to Bernini, I hope this affordable meal offers the incentive to give it a try.
