Council Member Kym Pine will examine some of the ways Hawai'i can emerge from its dependence on tourism. As Hawaii begins the process of opening for business, it is clear that it must be mitigated by creating new industries that are not as vulnerable. Hawaii must take bold action to jumpstart alternative industries. Some of our most promising alternative industries include agriculture, alternative energy and technology.

WHO: Councilmember Kym Pine; Native Hawaiian cultural practitioner Kalani Souza; Director of the Pacific Business Center Program at the University of Hawai'i Manoa, Dr. Tusi Avegalio; Michael Lurvey, developer of the award-winning TCOM system, a mobile system that processes and converts waste into commercially viable products with no negative or harmful emissions.

Kymberly Marcos Pine is a Honolulu City Councilmember representing District 1. Pine was elected to the State House of Representatives in 2004 to represent district 43 and served in the state house from 2004-2012. She was the first Republican to be elected to this seat since statehood. Pine then won a seat in the 2012 Honolulu City Council elections.
